Strong- Police officer Prabha Narayan (Bipasha Basu) is haunted by the evil presences of her past. Being an illegal daughter of a prostitute, she has had a very unhappy childhood and there one incident in her life when she was driven to the point of committing a murder. But today, now that she is a cop, she believes that she can clear her moral sense by reforming a criminal.
Prabha’s life is turned upside-down with the entry of Aditya Srivastava (Dino Morea), who is a good person at heart but was forced to take the path of crime due to the wrongdoings of the police system.
Prabha goes to Aditya’s house to catch him, but gets diverted when she sees him bathing and looks away. Aditya slips from under her keen eyes and a quick chase follows. Prabha stays close on the heels of run Aditya. At one point when she is about to fall off the rooftop, Aditya stops running and extends his hand to save her. This act makes a great impact on Prabha.
Prabha decides to know Aditya’s past and find out what elicit him to commit a crime in the first place. She decides to reform him but she gets ‘reformed’ herself and falls in love in the process. During that time, Prabha and Aditya fall in love. This continues with them being passionate towards each other. Then, a problem starts when Aditya escapes from jail and starts killing people again with reasons. Prabha being a good officer kills him when he is about to kill Police Inspector Digvijay Pandey (Irrfan Khan). She gets gold medal for killing him, and keeps the medal in front of his old fireman helmet, saying she loved him and a part of him will always live inside her.

Taran Adarsh From Bollywood Hungama gave 2 star out of 5 star and said that " Bipasha Basu comes up with a credible performance.Dino Morea has no dialogue to deliver till say 60% of the film is over. He has to communicate through expressions and gestures and he does it quite well. Irfan, in a negative role, is excellent. The dialogues he delivers will catch a lot many people unaware. Ashutosh Rana is not utilized.Anand Raaj Anand's music is melodious, but you don't carry a single song with you when the show ends. The background score is alright. Cinematography is quite nice.Mahesh Bhatt's script has its share of loopholes.
Ronjita Kulkarni from rediff.com criticise the film by saying "Bipasha plays the central character with ease, if you can ignore her accented Hindi. She may not be a natural actress, but her beauty and screen presence captivate you.Dino Morea has a very passive role in Gunaah.If there is one actor who rises above the rest in this movie it is Irfan Khan. As bad guy, Khan also lends some light moments in the film with his excellent comic timing.The music, strictly okay, interrupts the narration and is sometimes silly. All the songs are dream sequences.The film, while racy in the first half, loses steam in the second. The dialogues are strictly B-grade and make you cringe."
